Corella Pear, Walnut & Gorgonzola Salad

The other morning I was doing my usual crazy mama thing (car, school, car, gym, car, grocery shop ) when I suddenly came face to face with a lovely pile of Corella pears. I was taken by surprise because this was the first time I had seen Corella pears for the season.

I'm not a huge pear-alone fan as I prefer to have my pears 'in' something like a torte, crumble or frangipane tart. But when it comes to Corella pears I just can't bring myself to cook them. Maybe it's the allure of their warm gorgeous tones that causes me to stop dead in my tracks so to speak - who knows!
Some things are just perfect and need to be left well alone. So this Corella pear, walnut and gorgonzola salad is me leaving well enough alone.
Corella pear, Walnut & Gorgonzola Salad
You could have this on it's own as a starter or you could serve it on some grilled sourdough bread and enjoy it as a light lunch. Delicious and moorish either way.
Ingredients
Wild rocket
Corella pears, quartered
Walnuts, shelled
Gorgonzola
Olive oil
Honey
Lemon juice
Sea salt & freshly ground pepper
Method
1. Whisk the olive oil, honey and lemon juice together and season to taste. Cut the pears into quarters and remove the stems and pips. Using your hands tear the cheese into large chunks and then shell the walnuts.
2. Arrange the rocket, pear, walnuts and gorgonzola on a flat plate and then drizzle with the dressing. Finish with some freshly ground pepper and serve immediately.

mmm...They are beautiful and very fragrant. :) Over here, they like to put green apples in the salad.
You made the right decision to let the pear stand alone. I often do a salad like this. It's a very satisfying lunch and the counter-balance of the sweet with the gorgonzola is a real taste treat.
Beautiful photo! I have wild rocket (although I know it as rustic arugula) growing in my garden, and I have been running out of ideas for it. I may look for these pears locally and try this recipe out. It sounds delicious!
Hmm nice recipe not sure i can get corella pears here - going to look in my local waitrose, might have to use sweet dessert apples instead, lovely photo :)
Hi Nanette, Love the photos and the recipe look lush!
I love putting all sorts of fruit in salads. When in season I love to add pears, peaches, nectarines and grapes.
I agree Joan the sweetness of the pear works so well with the strong, pungent gorgonzola. I must admit that sometimes I omit the salad all together and just smoother chunks of pear in gorgonzola!
I love wild rocket in salads. If you are running out of ideas why not try turning some of your surplus supply into pesto?
Wow, this looks so beautiful! And delicious!
Just came across your blog and love it! Great job.
Thank you Stacey for your kind words & feedback!
