A Family Wedding

Last Sunday we had a family wedding in Port Douglas of all places. For those of you unfamiliar with Australian geography Port Douglas is a long, long way from Melbourne. In fact it's a three hour flight to Cairns and then another hour's drive to Port Douglas.

Our 7am flight out of Melbourne was delayed (for whatever reason) for forty minutes. So rather than a half an hour wait in Sydney before catching our connecting flight we had three minutes to run from Gate 5 to Gate 9 with hand luggage, the flower girl dress and two bamboozled children.
Thankfully we made the connecting flight and despite Qantas stuffing up our meal requests, both Hoover and Fussy were an absolute pleasure and delight to fly with. We arrived in Cairns and were greeted by Tony our jovial driver who informed the kids that today was their 'lucky day' because our appointed car for the journey to Port Douglas was a stretch limo. We were not as fortunate with regards to our luggage as it was still in Sydney - somewhere.

Once we got to the resort we all collapsed into a heap and had a two hour siesta. Thankfully our luggage arrived later that evening, so we informed the kids that they were not going to have to turn their underwear inside out to use again for the following day.

It rained on and off for most of our stay but that did not stop us from swimming in the salt water lagoon pool, bike riding around the resort, taking long walks along the Four Mile beach and enjoying a spot of Cane Toad racing at the Ironbar in Macrossan Street.

On the actual day of the wedding, both Hoover and Fussy gave a stellar performance that made both @Huxley and I gush with parental pride. I think the icing on the top of the cake for me was when Hoover interrupted the father of the bride mid speech and insisted that she too wanted to 'say a speech' for Uncle Brett and her favourite new Aunt Kierra.

That last photo is just gorgeous! Protective contentment on your face and sheer joy on hers!
I am very protective of her, both of them in fact. Sheer joy sums up her mood & day, she still thinks the wedding was all about her!
