Maltese mayhem and fairytale endings

The one criticism about a much anticipated event, function or do is that it's all over in a blink of an eye. The lead up is often intense and if you happen to be a three year old girl hanging out to be four the intense longing is all the more pronounced. In lieu of the inevitable let down I asked my siblings and cousins to linger-longer on Saturday and stay on for dinner. What transpired was an evening full of utter madness and sheer hilarity.

After the initial cupcake sugar high and a couple of games of pin the horn on the unicorn, pass the parcel and a frenetic jump on the trampoline we managed to get all the children seated for dinner. I made them all a simple bowl of tortellini as I thought they would not be too famished as they had been grazing on fairy bread, cake and pastizzi all afternoon.

A couple of the children got whiff of the timpana that I had made for
the adults and decided that they wanted some of that too. Then to make
things all the more chaotic some of the adults (who shall remain
nameless) made a bee line for the mushroom, thyme and sheep fetta
savoury tart that I had set aside for the token vegetarians in the
family. As per usual there was noise, mayhem and way too much food -
just another typical Maltese family get together at our house.

No one wanted the fun to end so I suggested that if it was easier to
bath kids and pyjama them at our house then 'please feel free to do
so'. What ensued was ninety minutes of absolute bath bedlam. We only
have the one bathroom and there were nine kids ranging from 6 months -8
years that needed to be scrubbed clean.
Ever the gracious host Mr Man ensured that the wine kept flowing and that my glass was always full. Children finally found their way into their flannelette pyjamas and onto the couch to watch Tinkerbell - an apt ending to a fairy party I think, whilst the adults dug into the lemon tart and left over cupcakes. Needless to say Hoover had a fabulous time. She loved being the centre of attention and fully enjoyed being surrounded by her nearest and dearest albeit for such a short moment in time.

aaaww just look at that grin!
Says it all really doesn't it?!
Super cute, wonderful stuff... so pleased you all had a cracker day!
Yay fairy bread!! Love that you cut the fairy bread into shapes other than triangles!! It all looked lovely, did you make those cupcakes? They are gorgeous!! As is your cutey pie daughter!! Yay Mum!
So lovely! I wish I could have been there to experience the girlie party thing. I only have boys and it was never that beautiful!
Colleen I would have much preferred triangle fairy bread as opposed to butterflies but that's what the girl wanted. We even made Nutella one's too! I didn't make the cupcakes they were made by Carolyn at Special Treats by Carolyn
What an absolutely beautiful post!
A.d.o.r.a.b.l.e! What's fairy bread?? Whatever it is, it looks cute and delicious. As usual, amazing photos.
Gathering from you comment and others I get the feeling that 'Fairy Bread' must be an Australian thing. It's an expected treat at children's parties. You basically butter sliced bread and then cover it with sprinkles. We took it to the next level and smothered the bread with Nutella and then covered it in sprinkles - the kids *loved* it!
Great post, I love the cupcakes.
Those cupcakes look great. The one thing about having boys is that B Days are all about cars, construction and superheros, I would love to throw a fairy Birthday.
wow crazy times, sounds like a lot of fun! those cupcakes are adorable and the food sounded incredible.
Adorable post, and those photos - magnificent!!
We have only ever had one joint birthday party and it was the famous '5 -1 Thunderbird party' three years ago. Our girl was 1 and our boy was 5 - he choose the theme and she was none the wiser. Every party there after has been separate as they clearly have very different preferences with regards to theme :)
By this post I cant tell Not so little L. had a perfect fairy tale birthday, the kind of birthday you will never forget in your life. I guess Mom deserves some credit here: Congratulations to you too Nanette!!!
I totally loved the cupcakes and the *fairy bread* (yes, I never heard of it either, thanks for the explanation). I wish I could have them for my birthday too. :-D
Great pictures, yours and Enzo Maisano.
Thanks Heidi I too think Enzo is a legend! When you have a minute click on the link above the image and go view his online folio - stunning!
Those cupcakes look to good to eat! They must of been delicious when you ate them! they are decorated so finely it looks like a baker made them!
Okay I think I want this party for my birthday. That won't be a problem, right? I'm going to be nineteen.
Ahem, and for the record, those are the best cupcakes I've ever laid eyes on
WOW those are so super cute!!! I cant wait to have a little girl someday and treat her to these wonderful things!
