Olive oil, saffron, paella pans and diamonds...

Some people dream about lying on a secluded beach with a gorgeous view and a great novel. I on the other hand fantasise about running away for a couple of weeks to Italy, France or Spain and learn to cook like a local. But having recently dumped my two children with my mother for two weeks while Mr Man and I flitted off to Malta and Italy, I think I am deluding myself into believing that I will be on a plane again any time soon!
Hence, I have been hinting to Mr Man for some time now that I am not interested in him getting me an eternity ring as I would much prefer if he gifted me with a ticket to Spain and sent me on my merry way for a couple of weeks to cook with Alicia at the Catacurian in Barcelona. My logic is that an eternity ring would just sit on 'my' hand for only 'me' to admire, but the advantage of me going to Spain would be far reaching and would in turn benefit the whole family!
So - the eternity ring or the Catacurian Cooking School, that is the million dollar question that is currently being debated at our house at the moment? I know what I want but how about you take a look at this captivating video and decide for yourself (and then maybe help me convince Mr Man that the only real answer is Spain)!
And then after I have stuffed myself senseless in Barcelona and learnt to cook and eat like a local, and filled my suitcase with one too many pairs of shoes I could head back home (via Roma of course) to do a little more shopping at ZARA. That reminds me again - why don't we have ZARA in Australia?

What an enticing video for Catacurian -- and if anyone gives you 2 accommodations, I'm always available! Hope your dream comes true.
Oh, wouldn't that be too fun. Ahhhhh.....(I sigh). Totally understand, but for the sake of your marriage you might have to go with the eternity ring (the fact that you have a choice like that is amazing) I think your husband would be resentful if you got to go and he didn't.
I'll take both thanks! Meet you in Barcelona... ;)
If you need a personal assistant...I'm available to travel, passport ready!
I'd take Spain and Zara (!!!) for sure.
Did you know that someone (the witchery group?) brought the rights for Zara in Austraila and were talking about a 2009 launch... how amazing would that be? Personally my wardrobe is half Zara anyway...

You are always welcome to come to our farmhouse in Umbria. I consider myself a fairly good cook but have a number of area contacts where I could arrange real traditional Umbrian cooking lessons with real area talented chefs. Maybe you would rather not hear it, but kids are welcome at our farmhouse in Umbria! I would even babysit for you for a good bottle of italian wine!
Deborah I will be celebrating a *significant* birthday later this year and I could think of nothing better than to celebrate it in Umbria! Would love nothing more than to pop on an apron, roll up my sleeves and cook with you in your gorgeous kitchen! Babysitting=how about I get you a *crate* of the best local wine available!?
Zara is actually a Spanish brand (Catalonian to be precise) so you can shop at Zara at one of the hundreds of stores in Spain...and it's MUCH cheaper than Malta!! Try 'Oysho' too, their sister brand. I LOVE them too. Btw, Hablo español y parlá catalá!!!...so if you need a translator????? Love your site Ms Gourmet!
Ah, Zara! Yes, as Gillian says Zara is a Spanish brand and they have a gorgeous store on Carrer Gran de Gracia that I spent a substantial amount of time and money in! I'd be another convert who would be thrilled if they opened a chain here in Australia - Melbourne first please!
As for the choice between a ring or 2 weeks in Barcelona - is there really a need to debate!? BARCELONA!
Ms Gourmet, they're drinking wine from that spouted bottle, not oil as you thought. I have one from Spain. It's an art form learning to drink from one but lots of fun. Some do it from cow stomachs and they are used alot in cider houses in BCN.
Oh bless - the thought of 'drinking' that much olive oil in one shot made my insides quiver. Now learning to drink wine in that manner... I like!
